VOLUMETRIC FILMMAKING WORKSHOP SERIES
Volumetric Filmmaking, pioneered by Scatter and made possible with Depthkit, allows us to combine the narrative power of filmmaking with game-engine interactivity. It allows us to capture real people, real stories and real places, and invites audiences inside the virtual worlds where the story takes place.
In this Volumetric Filmmaking workshop series, Scatter hopes to share the tools we create and the techniques we work with to promote the accessibility and diversity of immersive storytelling.
INTRO TO VOLUMETRIC FILMMAKING WORKSHOP
Depthkit is an accessible software tool kit for capturing volumetric video for use in virtual reality, augmented reality, and film/video. In this introductory workshop, students will jump into volumetric production by learning how to capture with Depthkit. This will include learning to record with just a computer and depth sensor for the creation of 2.5D volumetric assets. The primary focus of this class is understanding how to film with depth in mind, going over the theory, best practices, and technique of using Depthkit in a production setting. No previous 3D experience is required. This session will also include an overview for sharing the captured 2.5D assets in the Unity game engine.
What students will learn:
-A brief history of volumetric filmmaking.
-Current uses of volumetric filmmaking today.
-Single sensor volumetric capture with best practices and techniques for 2.5D volumetric asset creation.
-A brief overview for setting up volumetric assets in the Unity game engine.
