About the author
Roger Shufflebottom decided that he wanted to be an editor while still a schoolboy in northern England. After studying photography and film at the London College of Printing (now the London College of Communication), he worked for eleven years as a film editor at CTVC (Hillside Studios) in Hertfordshire. When CTVC decided that ‘film was dead’, he went freelance, working on documentaries and series for a number of UK broadcasters.
Then, in the very early nineties, word came of the possibility of editing on a computer – he got out his credit card, tossed a coin and booked a place on an Avid training course at the National Film School. Within a year or so he was training tape and film editors at the BBC, and soon after became one of the first Avid Certified Instructors in the UK. In the years that followed, he combined freelance editing with writing course books for Avid Technology and delivering training courses throughout Europe as well as India, South Africa and the United States.
In 2001, Focal Press published Roger’s first book, ‘Video Editing with Avid’.
In 2009, he took a job as Technical Tutor in the faculty of Media and Communication at Bournemouth University, UK, where he teaches editing techniques with an emphasis on Media Composer.
