    1. SCENE 1. INT BED-NIGHT

    A drop of a tear runs down Charles' cheeks (9) who is
    weeping in his bed. He pulls the bed clothes off and stares
    at the ceiling of his room, and quickly he covers his face
    with a sheet.



    2. SCENE 2. EXT. GARDEN - DAY LIGHT

    Charles goes out through the front door and heads for the
    back door of his house. There, he stops and observes a
    bicycle with a big smile. Suddenly, KATE, his younger
    sister comes running towards Charles.

    CHARLES
    What are you doing?

    KATE
    It´s none of your business.

    Kate fetches the bicycle that Charles was observing and
    takes it with her. He keeps observing Kate without saying
    anything. His face is losing his smile as the bicycle moves
    away. Kate turns the lateral of the house with her bicycle
    and Charles loses Kate's sight. Charles remains staring the
    direction Kate has gone and his face turns serious. Charles
    hears his mother's voice (29).

    MOTHER (OFF)
    Lunchtime!

    Charles snorts and continues staring while he answers his
    mother with a strong voice.

    CHARLES
    Mum. Kate has just gone on her
    bicycle.

    MOTHER (OFF)
    Well, call your sister quickly.
    Charles moves his lips smoothly, begins to run after Kate.



    3. EXT. STREET - DAY LIGHT

    Kate is about to turn the street in front of her house. She
    hears Charles' voice.

    CHARLES
    (shouting)
    Kate.

    Kate frowns and crosses the street. Charles frowns as well
    and runs after her. Charles crosses the street running.
    SOUND: CAR'S BRAKE. He sees how a car knocks her down and
    stops.

    FADE-OUT IN
    WHITE



    4. SCENE 4. IN. HOUSE. STAIRS - NIGHT.

    Charles listens to his mother's conversation on the phone
    with tears in his face, he is sitting on a step of the
    stairs with his hands holding his ankles. His head is
    resting on his knees and looking at the living room door
    with its frosted glass. Charles has a written piece of
    paper in his hand.

    MOTHER (OFF)
    (It is not understood
    well what she says, it
    confirms her serious
    tone)
    I didn't allow her to leave, she
    left on her own.

    Charles' eyes shine, he does not move and continues in the
    same position and attitude.

    MOTHER (OFF)
    Yeah…

    Silence. Charles looks out of the corner of his eye at the
    clipping of the written paper that he has.

    MOTHER (OFF)
    I'm sorry.

    Charles wipes his nose.

    MOTHER (OFF)
    I'll call my parents.

    Silence.

    MOTHER (OFF)
    Shall I call yours?

    Silence. A drop of tear falls down on the stair from
    Charles' eyes. Charles wipes his nose.

    MOTHER (OFF)
    Do not worry, I will see … Well,
    calm down, come on, me too...have
    a good rest, yeah...good night
    (Ringing off)

    Charles smiles, having listened to his Mother, and sees how
    his Mother turns off the light of the living room. Charles
    runs up the stairs. His Mother goes to her room. Charles
    gets into his room without closing the door, quickly gets
    inside the bed wrapping up with a sheet and looks out of
    the corner of his eye at his Mother who enters and closes
    the door of her room. Charles wipes his nose.

    FADE-OUT IN
    BLACK



    4. SCENE.5. EXT. HOUSE/ STREET - DAY LIGHT

    Charles goes out of his house and takes his sister's
    bicycle which is a little damaged by the accident but still
    works, he goes down the street with it. He observes the
    bicycle and rides on it. After two seconds on the saddle,
    he falls down sidewise with the bicycle. SOUND OF THE IRON
    OF THE BICYCLE. Charles gets up quickly. He rides on it
    again. He wipes his nose. He falls down. He gets up and
    tries again. He does not make it, he stumbles over the
    pedals and falls down again.

    Suddenly there appears his Mother arranged with a dress,
    shoes and a hat. He gets up off the ground and takes the
    bicycle.

    MOTHER.
    Ride on.

    Charles is bleeding a little, he has bruises in his legs,
    he rides on the bicycle. His mother holds the bicycle.

    MOTHER
    Pedal.

    Charles pedals strongly. The bicycle moves, his Mother
    begins running holding him. Charles smiles for a moment.
    His Mother releases him. Charles rides on three meters, he
    loses the balance and falls down to the ground heading to
    the wall. SOUND: KNOCK OF THE BICYCLE AGAINS THE WALL.

    MOTHER
    You see. As easy as this, my son.
    The only thing you have to do is
    to keep your balance. You will
    see how little by little you are
    going to be able to do it.

    Charles smiles at his Mother from the ground.

    MOTHER
    I have to go to fix lunch. At
    2:30 we eat. Don't be late,
    darling.

    After blowing Charles kiss, his Mother enters the house in
    a hurry.

    Charles looks at his pocket watch. He fetches his bicycle
    quickly, gets up and rides on it. SOUND: HORN OF A CAR. A
    man parks the car next to the house, goes out of the car,
    waves at Charles with his hand and walks towards the house.
    Charles got off the bicycle. The man knocks Charles' house,
    Charles stares at him, leaving the bicycle on the ground he
    approaches the man's car and looks at its interior with
    surprise. Mother opens the door of the house. Charles
    hides behind the wheel of the car sitting, but he does not
    look, he just listens.

    MOTHER
    What are you doing here?

    Without saying anything, the man takes her Mother's hand,
    they begin kissing warmly, quickly get into the house and
    they slam the door.

    Charles gets up after hearing the bang, takes his bicycle
    and rides on it. He begins pedalling. In his first attempt
    he falls down again. In the second one too. Tears fall down
    and he wipes his nose. His bruises are more and more
    numerous. At the fifth attempt ready to ride on. He sighs.
    He rides on. He begins pedalling. Tears come to his eyes.
    The bicycle advances. He keeps on pedalling. The handle of
    the bicycle trembles. He has advanced ten meters. He keeps
    on pedalling, more and more fastly, he is crying, he
    advances for thirty meters and raises his bottom from the
    saddle . He begins pedalling with strength and speed. His
    face changes, he is crying but smiles. He wipes his nose.
    He crosses a street, two streets. Cars cross and he avoids
    the people who walks down the street.



    5. SCENE 6. INT. HOSPITAL - DAY LIGHT

    Kate has her arms and legs in a cast, a big part of her
    body is covered with bandage, lying on her bed she looks at
    her room window.



    SCENE 7. EXT. DOOR HOSPITAL - DAY LIGHT

    Suddenly Charles crosses the parking at full speed and
    leaves his bicycle at the entrance of the hospital. He does
    not tie it anywhere. He bends and runs towards the interior
    quickly. Several workers of the hospital observe him. He
    asks at the front desk, getting out of his pocket a small
    clipping of written paper, reading quickly.

    CHARLES
    Room G-598?

    NURSE (45)
    On the 5th floor… but … (she has
    no time to finish, looking at the
    way the child looks with
    surprise)

    Charles ignores her and runs towards the lift but he sees
    that there is a queue, he decides to run up the stairs.
    While he is going up, he collides with more than one
    patient, nurses reprimand him.



    SCENE 6. INT. HOSPITAL - DAY LIGHT

    Kate is playing with a doll. Suddenly Charles appears at
    the door. Both see each other and exchange a serious look.
    Charles is dirty. Kate moves her mouth trying to say
    something to him.

    KATE
    mm...m m...

    Charles seriously, suddenly runs towards her and gives her
    a strong hug. Kate answers hugging him back. Charles does
    not say anything. A tear runs down Kate's closed eyes.
    SOUND: Hospital noise.

    FADE-OUT IN
    WHITE.



    6. SCENE 5. EXT. HOUSE / STREET - NIGHT

    Charles realizes that all the lights of his house are
    turned off. He picks up his house keys from under a
    flowerpot. He opens the door. He enters and closes the door
    stealthily. When he turns he sees his Mother.

    MOTHER
    (Worried)
    Where do you come from?

    Charles does not answer, he looks seriously at his mother.

    MOTHER
    Your Mother has asked a question
    to you. Answer me.

    Charles is dirty, with wounds, with bruises, Mother looks
    at him up and down but he does not say anything. Mother's
    eyes are shinining with tears, she bites his lips little by
    little, she does not stop looking at Charles, she begins
    crying in distress. Charles keeps on looking at her
    seriously, his face is more and more wrinkled, suddenly he
    runs to hug his Mother.

    CHARLES
    (smiling ahead)
    And you?

    THE END.
