SCREENWRITING CONTEST ENTRY: "WHAT YOU WISH FOR" by KEITH B. ROBINSON

EXT. DAY- PARK
A WOMAN and MAN 1 sit next to one another on a bench.
The Woman is reading a magazine. She get's a call. She gets off the bench but leaves the magazine behind. Man 1 picks up the magazine, he thumbs through the pages to find an envelope. He looks at the contents of the envelope, which contain a diagram sketched slip of paper and a key. He closes the magazine and sits motionless.
MAN 2, dressed in jeans and a leather jacket walks by as the entire transaction happens.
TITLE: WHAT YOU WISH FOR
EXT. NIGHT- PARKING LOT
MAN 1 (V.O.)
I solve problems, human problems. I'm the go to guy in extreme situations when people look for a radical, unorthodox approach.
HUSBAND (MAN 3) walks toward garbage dumpster, he looks over at cars in parking lot. He throws the trash bag into the dumpster. He walks back toward the apartment building.
INT. NIGHT- CAR
Man 1, hands covered in plastic gloves, pulls out a case from the glove compartment, they removes a syringe from the case. He taps the remaining air out of syringe, then puts it in his pocket.
He pulls out the diagram of an apartment, studies it a bit then slips it back into his pocket. He looks up toward the window, a few minutes later the light goes out. He gets out the car and walks toward the apartment.
MAN 1 (V.O.)
The challenges have been far and few between. Maybe its time to get out, re-access my life. Just one last job.
EXT. NIGHT- FRONT DOOR
Man 1 gets to front door pulls out the key and slips it in the lock.
INT. NIGHT- APARTMENT
He quietly ascends the stairs. He cautiously looks around on the first floor then continues up the stairs to the second floor.
Man 1 approaches the bedroom at the top of the stairs. He looks around cautiously, then enters the bedroom.
INT. NIGHT- BEDROOM
As he approaches the bed, he pulls out the syringe. He slowly pulls the covers back to reveal Husband (Man 3)laying silently.
Just as moves the syringe closer to Husband, Man 2, wielding a bat, comes behind Man 1 and bashes him across the head. A LOUD THUD rings out.
MAN 1
(V.O.)
My last job. The easy job i wished for. Domestic cases are always messy, but she's a good friend. I told her i would take care of the situation. If i make it through...I
Man 1 eyes closes, he lays motionless. Man 2 stands over him, then backs away. Reaches down to check for pulse. Husband gets out of bed.
Man 2 hands the bat to Husband.
HUSBAND
The rest of the money will be wired to your account as soon as you finish the second part of the job.
Man 2 turns to walk away. Husband grabs him.
HUSBAND (CONT'D)
Remember, she has to disappear, and you should too!
Man 2 nods in affirmation, then calmly leaves the room. Husband walks over to the window and looks out. The car Man 1 drove pulls out the driveway.
INT. NIGHT- LIVING ROOM
Husband sits calmly in the living room, holding the bat. The door OPENS, the Woman comes in the door.
She comes up the stairs sees Husband sitting on the couch. She comes into the living room looking stunned.
HUSBAND
What, no kiss? I guess you didn't get what you wished for?
FADE OUT.
