 About The After-Set Independent Film Program

The Program is operated on a weekly basis depending on availability on the screening room at Tribeca Grand Hotel. As a courtesy, we do not charge the filmmakers to screen their films and we allow them to showcase their work to their own audience. However, we do ask for an online admission to keep the program running and we give a weekly contribution to Healing The Children Northeast, an organization that helps doctors travel abroad and operate on children who need medical assistance. Chicasblue  - 5 Mins - A woman journeys into her childhood as she seeks for lost memories and sensations.  As she time travels, she warns the girl of what awaits her in the future. Chicasblue is about the painful and joyful transformation of a girl into a woman.  It is the narration of a woman speaking to herself once she has accepted her inevitable fate of embracing adulthood.

Last Breath - 3.30 Mins - A delicate collage of poetic and evocative imagery woven together by the bittersweet narration of a father who remorsefully embraces the few memories and impressions he has of his young daughter.

The Portrait - 17 Mins - Photographic portraiture ambitiously aims to be about one single moment that could reveal a person's essence. It does not desire any moment, but the moment.  Thus, what are the essential components that should coincide to create such portrait?   Penélope, a young photographer, navigates through the anxious and determined quest to decipher the perfect alignment of ingredients to produce such photograph.  The Portrait  is a philosophical and poetic reflection on the power of memory, the sequel of loss and the multiple innuendos of the photographic art.

Daniela Merino was born in Quito, Ecuador.  In Ecuador she earned her BA in Communications and Art History.  In Latin America she worked as an editorial photographer for a couple of years, but with no formal training in photography, she decided to travel to New York to master the art of Black and White Printing at the International Center of Photography.

With her new skills she traveled to Asia to teach this art to young kids.  During this time, she spontaneously started filming them in their photographic quest.  Her passion for photography had grown into a passion for the moving image.  She later earned her M.A. in Film at The New School back in New York.

As a result of these life events, her art now naturally fluctuates between the still and the moving image.  Her photographic work has been shown in galleries in Ecuador, The United States, Belgium, Italy, Japan and The Philippines.  Her films have been broadcasted by PBS and have also been showcased in festivals around the globe.

The Music of Erich Zann - 38 mins- A young student becomes fascinated by the strange music of the eccentric violinist living above him, leading him to a terrifying discovery. Based on the short story by H.P. Lovecraft

The Earth Rejects Him - 25 mins - A young boy discovers a corpse while biking in the woods, then faces unexpected and macabre consequences when he tries to bury it.  

Jared Skolnick was born in Feeding Hills, MA where he developed a love of film and filmmaking from early childhood, poring over books on famous directors while the other kids were playing soccer. He attended the Williston Northampton High School, and his efforts as a senior created a film program in the curriculum that is growing to this day. He has recently graduated from Fairfield University, where he completed his thesis film, The Music of Erich Zann. To date, the film has screened in 14 international film festivals, winning awards in the process. He wishes to have others feel the joy and love that he has for the movies.
