TSMG Presents: David W Cooper & Joe Rafla’s Script Swap & Critique Double Session

Event Details

  • We’d like to invite you to a double session featuring David W Cooper & Joe Rafla as your guide and mentors.

On June 23rd, 2012 1:00pm at the National Film Board of Canada David & Joe will be discussing the details of how to properly read and critique a script that’s not your own, without ripping someone’s heart out of course - we’re all friends here at the TSMG, lets keep it that way!

We’ll be asking those in attendance to have their scripts (partially completed scripts acceptable) prepared and ready to swap (digitally speaking that is, for the sake of saving trees) for a peer read & critique. David and Joe will be going over the various methods & techniques on what to look for when reading another script for the first time, with an eye on what to look for and roadblocks to avoid in your own scripts when sending them out to production companies. If you know what to look for in your own scripts, it will certainly help you keep an objective perspective on your own.

A long time member of a private script swap & critique group David has a great deal of experience with reading and critiquing scripts. An optioned graduate of the highly acclaimed UCLA Screenwriters Program, David will be on hand to provide guidance and answer your questions while you get to know your script swapping partners - you’ll have two swap partners to ensure you’re getting the right information out of your script critique, one person’s opinion can be personal but when two people are pointing something out (good or bad) it really helps solidify the feedback you’re receiving.

Joe Rafla has lived in Toronto for the past four years by way of Montreal. He has worked in the film industry in several capacities over the past eleven years. Originally an artist with IATSE, he later resumed writing and acting, having studied theatre at Pearson College/University of Victoria. Over the past eight years Joe has worked as a script editor/writer and analyst for Telefilm Canada (Feature Film,Montreal), Harold Greenberg Fund, Seville Films, Item 7, Darius Films, and Proximity Films, amongst others.

TSMG Raffle Prizes and digital handouts will be on hand for those in attendance on the day, don’t miss this chance to gain valuable knowledge and keep your screenwriting momentum moving in the right direction - keep an eye out for part two of this double session, where we’ll be going into detail about what to do with the information gathered from a script critique.

    Hope to see you there!
