Service Dogs of Virginia has opened a call for entries to filmmakers
for its first annual Ruff Cuts Film Festival –
a festival of short films celebrating man’s best friend.
With both a matinee and evening series planned, this one-day festival is slated for
June 28th, 2014 at the Dickinson Fine and Performing Arts Center on the grounds of
Piedmont Virginia Community College in Charlottesville, Virginia.
For well over a decade, Service Dogs of Virginia has been dedicated to training dogs for people
with disabilities across the Commonwealth and providing the dogs at virtually no cost.
They receive no government funding and raise all the money to care for and train their dogs through
private donations and foundation grants. It costs approximately $38,000 to raise and train one dog
for two years.

Proceeds from sponsorships and ticket sales will provide funding for raising and training dogs that
are placed into one of three program areas: physical assistance, autism service and diabetic alert.
