A FILM FESTIVAL

Event Details

  • Toronto's cultural showcase of issue-oriented cinema,

In the Spotlight today is the 9th Annual Commffest Global Community Film Festival, nestled in the heart of Toronto and in the memories of countless visitors who return, again and again, to celebrate the magic of the movies. A festival dedicated to inclusion and to community enhancement, Commffest welcomes films of all genres, including interfaith films, student films, children's films, and cinéma vérité. By screening a wide variety of local, national, and international projects, Commffest readily proves that, in every corner of the globe, great storytellers are more alike than they are different.

Exhibiting filmmakers will receive gift packages, restaurant certificates, and invitations to unforgettable networking and social engagements throughout the run of the festival. Each year, Commffest presents its "Making a Difference Awards" to filmmakers whose work champions social good and community enrichment. Whether young or old, seasoned or just beginning, cinematic storytellers are welcomed into Commffest with open arms and with equal opportunities to engage and inspire audiences from across the planet.

In 2010, Commffest opened its doors to more than 200 children from local schools that now include the festival experience as part of their annual curriculum. That same year, a Seniors Festival was also included, prompting exciting discussions about the lives and concerns of veterans and the elderly -- and just last year, a host of Commffest films tackled subjects as diverse as sex and disability, the outbreak of SARS, breast cancer, and more.

    MISSION AND OBJECTIVE
Using the powerful language of film, Commffest combines public exhibits with forums for dialogue about social issues and cultural exchanges.

    MORE ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
After screening at Commffest, Rett: There is Hope garnered national television exposure and raised awareness of The Ontario Rett Syndrome Association, an organization that combats a powerful and debilitating disorder of the nervous system. The increased public profile of Rett Syndrome meant a surge of financial support for the fight against this disease.

Rett: There is Hope and its success is a prime example of Commffest's marriage of cinema excellence and social progress. If you have a film that aims to improve the world, Commffest wants to see it.

COMMFFEST is a charitable, not for profit organization whose mission is
to advance education by raising the artistic and aesthetic taste of the community
and advancing the public’s appreciation of performing arts through independent
film festival and related artistic workshops.
