Ilan Halimi, a young Parisian Jew, is lured by a beautiful woman into a kidnapping trap masterminded by a criminal network known as the “Gang of Barbarians.” Their intent is to hold Halimi for ransom based on their assumption that Jewish families not only are extremely wealthy, but are also willing to pay for the lives of their loved ones. The police insist, though, that this is purely a case of kidnapping for ransom, whereas Ilan's mother, Ruth is the only one who perceives the vicious antisemitism that motivates the perpetrators.
