Chin and their connection to the city of Lewisville and LISD, the Chin are three people groups from the western side of Myanmar, the Chin State. The Chin were persecuted due to race and religion, with much of the population fleeing. In the early 2000s, thousands of Chin refugees entered the United States, and a group of refugees found a home in Lewisville. Fast forward years later, and the Chin community in Lewisville is thriving.
Our guest Par Hniang, is a member of the Chim community of Lewisville, TX. Nestled in Lewisville is a community of almost 4,000 people from the Chin State of Myanmar. Coming as refugees, this population has been persecuted and abused due to their race and religion. Today, this population represents one of the largest minority groups in the city and Chin is the third most spoken language in Lewisville ISD. While they have come for a better life, obtaining it has had its share of trials.
