ERIC CHEEVERS
SATURDAY OCTOBER 2ND
Show starts at 7pm
Eric Cheevers is an award-winning director of films and music videos (The Walkmen, Raveonettes, Dead Meadow, Weird War, among others) that have exhibited at film festivals such as Slamdance, Cannes, the Los Angeles Short Film Festival, Cannes, and New FilmMakers/Anthology Film Archives, among many others. In addition to museums and colleges in the US and abroad, Eric’s music videos have been exhibited on MTV, and he has been commissioned to create film pastiches of 60s-era NASA footage for use in ONE Management’s Spring/Summer 2010 promotion and fashion shows. A devotee of celluloid and traditional film aesthetics, Eric continues to shoot on 16mm film, in addition to editing on flatbed editors. His award-winning ‘Sexy Stories’ series, a meticulous recreation of 70’s European soft-core porn films that are shot/edited entirely with contemporaneous 70’s-vintage equipment has entertained audiences for the past seven years, and features appearances by The Raveonettes, Ian Svenonious and TV’s Matthew Lesko (the question-mark suited man of ‘Get Free Government Money!’ infomercial infamy). The series also features appearances by members of various storied indie bands (Make Up, Jonathan Fire Eater, Nation of Ulysses etc.) and are scored with ‘found’ incidental music of unknown provenance (unmarked tapes found in recording studio dumpster). Tonight’s show will feature the Sexy Stories films, in addition to his other music video work, and award-winning early short ‘The Jenny James Story’. Plus a surprise showing of the film-as-it-happened ‘The Purgatory All-Stars Talent Showcase Vol.1′!
