    I am a german composer and sounddesigner.

    I took a four day class with Diana Weynand, who wrote the Final Cut Pro 6 book for Apple.  It was pretty expensive (around $800), but I did learn a lot.  My local community college (Tucson, AZ) has a semester long class - check community colleges and universities in your area.  I also learned a lot just by going through the Weynand-authored book and doing the exercises (it comes with a disk of footage to practice with in the lessons).  Good luck!
