The April episode is going to be a trifecta of awesome! I’m not kidding, not only will the show premiere animated and sci-fi shorts, but we will also introduce our brand new host, Ms. Lucy-Jade Norris!

Lucy hails from the other side of the pond. (We’re super excited that our host has that fantastic accent, aren’t you?) We think that any artist willing to hop on a plane and fly across an ocean for her craft has got be pretty damn amazing and dedicated.

Lucy arrived in NYC from England just 4 years ago. Since then she’s been busy studying and working hard. The Short Film Show is thrilled to have her on board!

I recently got the chance to ask Lucy some questions, so we could get to know her better. Here’s how the interview went:

TMM: When did you decide that you wanted to work in front of the camera?

LJN: I trained as a dancer and I have always had a passion for performing; however, as a teenager I loved watching talk shows and would dream of hosting in front of the camera. I was confident that America was where I needed to go to be able to audition for the best projects and shows. That’s when I made my move. After training at drama school in New York I decided to pursue the hosting field alongside my acting work, and have been fortunate enough to start booking roles.

TMM: What was your first role/gig?

LJN: My first role in front of the camera was a commercial for OK magazine, which I had been offered through my modeling agency. I had to pretend I was shopping in a mall—which is pretty easy as this is one of my guilty pleasures.

My line was simple-“I love reading about Posh and Becks!” It wasn’t the most challenging project, but it was a lot of fun. It was a great experience because I got to see how a real set worked and from that point I realized how important professionalism is in this industry.

TMM: Whose (entertainment) career would you like to emulate? Why?

LJN: I would love to emulate the career of Sandra Bullock.

Not only is she an incredible actress, who is able to be successful in all genres of film, but she also has the ability to choose her roles carefully and she always plays to her strengths. I respect that she is now producing films and helping new projects and scripts get funding. She has been able to grow and mature while still remaining popular and true to herself.

(Hmmm…note to self: consider writing Sandy for some funding…)

TMM: Do you have a favorite TV host? Are your hosting skills similar?

    LJN:
I love Kelly Ripa. Her style, wit, humor and honesty make her really entertaining and her interviewing skills are original and personable. I would compare my hosting style to hers; however, I grew up watching a British host, Parkinson, who was a lot more serious, although he always managed to create a relationship with the celebrities that enabled them to open up in a way that the public had never seen before. He is my ultimate favorite and I strive to be as good as him!

    TMM:
What’s your favorite genre of film?

    LJN:
My favorite genre of film has got to romantic comedies. I never tire of watching stories about love that are told in a funny way. They have been around forever and even though some may be predictable, the idea of forgetting reality and escaping to a world of happy endings is always fun.

TMM: If your life was a short film what would be the title?

    LJN: Pretending Becomes Reality.

Here’s to Lucy’s work with The Short Film Show becoming a real, big success!
